Academic women in Scotland

The RSE Young Academy of Scotland have focused attention on the career paths of women in academia. Their recent publication Academic Women Now: experiences of mid-career academic women in Scotland provides an insight into the varied and career trajectories of 30 successful academic women, from a range of subject disciplines, through a series of case studies.

Within the 30 case studies, each woman has provided information on her research, the career challenges she has faced, and the things which she felt has enabled her success. The addition of visual time lines gives a fascinating instant overview of how each woman’s careers has progressed over time. As well as showing job changes, these timelines include personal insights, including birth of any children and whether a partner was affected by moving institutions (and countries).  These timelines also include significant service activities, first major grants and four further career milestones.

As well as providing an interesting read, I hope this this may offer some inspiration.
