I thought it may be worth mentioning that Cancer Research UK Graduate Scheme is now open for applications. Obviously only of interest to those of you who may have decided against an academic / research career but who may still be interested in working for an organisation involved in scientific research.
They recruit into 5 areas:
- Fundraising and Marketing
- Scientific Strategy and Funding
- Policy Information and Communications
As part of the scheme graduates complete several placements / projects in their specialist area over a couple of years. Although aimed at graduates from a first degree it is open to PhD graduates too. The Scientific Strategy and Funding stream in particular may be of interest as it involves keeping up to date with the research community and involvement in funding decisions. You can read about the experiences of a recent PhD graduate on the scheme here.
The closing date for applications is not until 4th January 2015 for a September 2015 start. However, as it’s a very competitive graduate scheme if you think you may be interested I’d suggest you start investigating now. You can find out more on their website here.
